After creating your blog, you have installed all the designs and settings, and you have updated a banner for your blog for visitors to see when they visit but you do not have a blog icon. All professional blogs have icons on them, some newbies do know what is a blog icon but can't set up one and others do not know a blog icon or how to set one and others even have no idea what a blog icon is.
I will be giving you an idea by breaking down the meaning of what the term favicon is all about.
A favicon is a mini-sized photo which displays in the browser behind the name of your blog title when it is searched for. A favicon can however be designed by the blog developer or can be generated online from some favicon icon generating platforms.
Although, a favicon is not to be in a large size or a rectangular form. i.e to say that favicons are small in size equal in length and width size, and they are to be squared in shape.
READ ALSO: THE THINGS YOU NEED TO HAVE BEFORE CREATING A BLOGThe word "Favicon" according to" to blogger was generated by the bringing together of two words, Favorite which is abbreviated(fav) and icon. i.e it is the use of your favourite picture as your blog icon. According to the Oxford student dictionary, an icon is a small symbol on a computer screen that represents a program or file.
Example of favicon sizes:
32x32: The standard for most desktop browser
128x128: Chrome store and small Windows star screen icon
152x152: iPad touch icon
167x167: iPad retina touch icon
180x180: iPhone retina icon
192x192:Google developer web app recommendation
196x196: Android home screen icon
QUALITIES OF A FAVICON:
1. A favicon should have a design related to your brand identity since you cannot write a long word on the image due to its mini size, you could make a short abbreviation that gives a hint about your name. It could be one, two, or three letters that have something related to the blog or the photo background could be of any element related to the blog's topic.
2. Make sure the size of the favicon is small(less than 100kb) because a big-size photo file is not accepted by Blogger for a favicon.
3. Consider the shape of the favicon since the photo is to be of equal length and width, I suggest you choose a square shape photo to make the process easy for you.
